Meet our 2022 Scholarship Recipients!

For the second year, we awarded ten scholarships to recent high school graduates and adult students to help cover the cost of college. These $1,000 scholarships can be used toward tuition, books, on-campus housing, and other related costs. We awarded scholarships to five high school graduates from the class of 2022 and five adults pursuing further education.

 

Introducing our 2022 High School Scholarship Recipients:

Corinne C. – The youngest of five children, Corinne enjoys biking, reading, and spending time with her family and cat. Corinne recently graduated as a dual-enrolled CCC student/Canby High School senior with an honors diploma and will be attending Brigham Young University in Idaho this Fall to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology.

Emma D. – Emma is the oldest of five children, with three brothers and a sister. Following her dream to one day become a nutritionist/dietitian, she’ll be attending Brigham Young University in Idaho in the Fall to major in Food Sciences. In her free time, Emma loves to read, write, and play the ukulele and one day plans to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Jack L. – A recent high school graduate, Jack plans to pursue a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado School of Mines.

Kate B. – Kate plans to use her Clackamas scholarship to help fund her future education at the University of San Diego where she looks forward to exploring a new environment and challenging herself in new ways.

Riley H.-W. – Riley hails from Aurora, Oregon. Next school year, he will be attending Tufts University in Boston to study philosophy. In his spare time, Riley loves playing soccer, reading, and spending time with his family.

Introducing our 2022 Adult Scholarship Recipients:

Crystal R.-K. – Crystal recently started the Learning and Leading Doctoral program at the University of Portland where she plans to focus her dissertation on Dual Language Immersion (DLI) programs and their impact on marginalized populations. When she’s not teaching, Crystal loves to travel the world to learn about different cultures while meeting new people along the way.

Sam W. – With a focus on achieving their community-oriented goals, Sam currently works as a medical assistant at a transgender services clinic while attending Portland Community College to study nutrition. Their plan is to obtain an Associate’s of Science before transferring to the National University of Natural Medicine to get a Bachelor’s of Science in nutrition. In their free time, you’ll find Sam hiking, camping, reading, engaging with the local community, and hanging out with Bonbon the cat.

Elizabeth M. – Faced with difficult personal challenges, Elizabeth has had to fight hard to get where she is. Working a part-time job and with the support of those close to her, Elizabeth is making her way through school and powering forward to one day being able live the life she’s always dreamed of. The award money from the Clackamas scholarship will go toward completing her Transfer Associates Degree in English at OSU. From there, she has her sights set on a bachelor’s degree and then ultimately a doctorate.

Jordan D. – Jordan hails from Milwaukie, Oregon and is currently enrolled at Oregon Institute of Technology where she’s working toward earning a major in Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Technology as well as a minor in Coaching. This year, she’ll be completing her senior externship at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, Washington in the nuclear medicine department, obtaining hands-on learning experience in the workplace.

Landon S. – Landon is busy working toward his associate transfer degree from Chemeketa Community College and will then be transferring to Penn State where he plans to get a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance. His goal is to work in non-profit lending or venture capital. As a former elected official for Oregon Future Business Leaders of America, Landon has seen the impact that non-profits and cooperatives can have on local communities and hopes to continue to give back.

Though their personal stories are unique, each of this year’s recipients share the same drive for reaching their educational goals. It is an honor that we have the chance to help them realize their dreams. Credit unions were founded on the idea of being people helping people. At Clackamas, we improve lives and foster economic empowerment for all. We feel there’s no better way to do that than by supporting the education of our neighbors and members.
